A quick human check on signup
- new Creating an account (email or the one-click link) now asks you to click three characters from a small bar onto the image beside it. It takes a couple of seconds and keeps scripted accounts out; a "new characters" link swaps in a fresh set if the first is hard to read.
- new The check is generated on our own server, works without any third-party tracker, and every challenge works exactly once.
Signing up for bespoke now includes a small human check. Three characters appear in a bar above a picture; find each one on the picture and click it. Any order works, the button unlocks once all three are marked, and a "new characters" link swaps in a fresh set whenever one looks too hard to read.
The reason is simple: accounts are free and instant, which is great for people and unfortunately great for scripts. Automated signups had started arriving, so the signup forms now ask for something a script has to actually see before an account is created. It takes about as long as checking a box, and nothing else about signup has changed: the same email and password form, the same one-click link from the front page, the same instant capability URL afterwards.
The check runs entirely on bespoke's own server. No third party is involved, nothing about you is sent anywhere to prove you are human, and every challenge can be used exactly once, so a solved one cannot be recycled by whatever tried it first.
